"Super Baby Food" Review and Giveaway

***Giveaway has ended***
When my oldest son started eating solids I knew that I wanted to make as much of his food as possible. I knew that I wanted his food to be as minimally processed as possible and from our kitchen, not some large factory. I was a first time mom and didn’t know where to start, so I talked to my neighbor about it and she recommended the book Super Baby Food, by Ruth Yaron.

Right off the bat, she outlines why making your own baby food is easy, economical and better for your baby. She walks you through every step of preparation and the supplies that you will need. There is an entire chapter on safety warnings including things such as allergies, food borne illness, and choking hazards.

She outlines what new foods to introduce each month, and there is an entire section on healthy toddler recipes for when your baby is not so much a baby anymore. I cook for Ben from these all the time and sometimes we all eat her casseroles and pancakes. (well, not the twins) Another one of my favorite things about this book is that she has a list of “healthy extras”, easy to add nutritional enhancers. There is even more than just baby food. Ruth Yaron also included chapters on homemade baby products, eco-friendly and baby-safe cleaning products, and arts and crafts.

If you don’t already have this book, it is well worth your money. You can purchase it from www.superbabystore.com. The author was generous enough to send me a copy to review, and although my personal copy is splattered with pancake batter and beet puree, I would like to give my “review copy” to one lucky reader. Here’s how to enter:
*Go to www.superbabyfood.com and comment with one tidbit about the book. This comment is required, if not included all other entries will not count. Make sure to leave an email address to contact you by.
* Follow this blog, leave a comment telling me you follow.
* Join fans of Super Baby Food on facebook, comment telling me you joined.

US only. Giveaway ends 2/15 at noon pacific time. Winner will be drawn by random.org and will be contacted by email and has 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be drawn.

Like all of my reviews, this review is of my own opinions. I was not compensated in any way other than being sent a copy of the book.

  1. Our DD#2 is having her 1st baby at 35yrs old. I know this book would be a great asset to them. We're all for avoiding harmful additives and preservatives.

I use google.com/reader to track my favorite blogs …. you're listed.

I joined SuperBabyFood on Facebook too.

    Thanks.

  2. Tidbit: This book taught me the correct times to cook the veggies I steamed for my little one so I didn't overdo it 🙂 He now eats spinach, kale, broccoli, zucchini, super porridge etc. Anything I give him he tries and I think it was the techniques Ruth offered that helped me out.

I'd love to give this to my friend as a gift at her upcoming baby shower.

Wow, not only food recipes, but the book also has baby-safe and environmentally-friendly recipes for household cleaning products, such as baby-safe drain cleaners, furniture polish, window cleaners.
